NJ Beer Company Release Party at Coppermine Pub

Monday, May 10th, 2010

It’s official folks, NJ Beer Company is having its launch party at the Coppermine Pub in North Arlington NJ on Sat May 15th.  I have been following Matt Steinberg’s journey to get to the wondrous spot for several months.  Back in Nov of ‘09, I first met Matt at his deserted brewery, there was no equipment, electricity, or gas.  Since that day he has overcome production delays, shipping delays, and customs delays with his brewing equipment, not to mention mistakes by local utility companies.  But, aside from all of these start-up set backs, his dream of opening a Brewery in North Jersey is finally a reality!

Tap and Mallet – Rochester, NY

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

It’s not every day I get to leave my cave and get out.  Even rarer are the days that I have to travel to lands unknown.   This past weekend brought me to Rochester NY.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with western New York, like me, Rochester is a small city that sits about 75 miles east of Buffalo on Lake Ontario or a 6 hour car ride for my lead foot.   After some carefully research (“google:beer bar rochester”), the first listing was the Tap and Mallet.  I checked out their website which listed some pretty good drafts, including ones I hadn’t had before, so I decided this would be “my bar” for my one night in Rochester.tapandmallet1

Quick Visit to the Peculier Pub – NYC

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

On a recent trek in to the city (New York City, for those out side the tri-state area), I had an hour to kill before my interview with Rob Tod of Allagash Brewing Company.  Since I was down by Bleeker Street and the Blind Tiger was a bit  further then I wanted to walk on a hot day, I decide to hit a bar I haven’t been to in 15 years.    The Peculiar Pub is old school pub, quiet, dark, with a nice selection of  bottled beer and about 14 draft beers.  You’re not going to go wrong here, enough selection of imported beer to keep most happy for a session.peculiarpub_bar

Brown’s Brewing Company, Troy NY

Monday, July 13th, 2009

On a recent trip to Albany NY, I was taken to a local Brew Pub, Brown’s Brewing Company in Troy NY.  This brewpub over looks the “scenic” Hudson River in a part of Troy that looks to be going through a face lift.  Right off the bat there were some things I liked about this Brew Pub, easy parking and some classical warehouse/factory architecture.  Brown’s is located inside a huge brick building.  To greet you after a walk up a flight of stairs to the outside patio, are 5 pots of Willamette Hops.   These look to be for show, but it is still nice to see.  The pub has, patio, bar and upstairs dinning seating, making for a very spacious place.  Unfortunately the outside seating is pretty limited when thunderstorms are threatening, but nonetheless our party of 6 waited about 20+ minutes for patio seating.  While we were waiting it gave me a good opportunity to explore the Pub.browns1
