Our 16th Beer Brawl, was the first one on the road and probably the one I was looking forward to the most.  Beside being on the road in a new location with a new friend of Simply Beer, I really wanted to drink this line up of Bourbon/Whiskey/Scotch aged Imperial Stouts.  The beers in Beer Brawl 16 were all Imperial Stouts, either American Imperial or Russian Imperial.

I’d never seen the Stone Cali-België IPA in a store in New jersey before, so when I did, I grabbed a bottle of it without knowing much about the beer.  Basically the Stone Cali-België IPA is an American IPA fermented with Belgian  yeast.

This week we switched things up a bit and focused on a Brewer rather then a particular style of beer.  For this Beer Brawl, we choose to focus on Mikkeller beers.  Mikkel Borg Bjergsø is a ‘gipsy-brewer’, who brews at different breweries in Denmark, Norway, Germany and the United States.  Each beer that is made is unique and may only be a one time limited release.

The Dogfish Head Festina Pêche is a Berliner Weisse beer, a fairly rare wheat beer, made slightly more popular lately with German breweries resurrecting this almost lost style of beer.  This beer is made with top-fermenting yeast and lactobacillus culture to give the beer a distinctive tart and citric flavor.

What I have found from drinking Dogfish Head, you’ll always get something that is going to push the envelope or at least hit you with a curve ball. The Dogfish Head Immort Ale is considered an American Double, which is basically a high ABV beer catchall category, when a beer doesn’t fit anywhere else.

First off, great name, “Beer Geek Breakfast”, how could you not buy a beer called that?  Somehow this beer got pushed back into the dark depths of my Beer Cellar. As I was updating my Beer Cellar list a couple days ago, I saw that I had not reviewed it since buying it over 4 months ago.  So, without further delay…
