Beers of the World – Rochester, NY

Hot Damn! If I was a beer this is where I would want live. Beer of the Worlds is what a beer store should be. It was just beer after beer, after row after row of BEER!
There were a couple of comments on another Beer Store Review that said I should check out Gary’s in Wayne NJ. Well, I was listening. I went there on July 1st to see what they had.
First off I must thank my wife, this tasting plus the upcoming Dogfish Head Dinner was a fathers day gift. Do I have the best wife or what!? The Extreme Beer & Extreme Cheese pairing was at Amanti Vino in Montclair, New Jersey. To quite honest, I was a bit skeptical at first not knowing much about the store, except they carry a hand selected wines. When I got to the store and saw the selection of beer they had, I was encouraged. It was a very small selection of beer, but it was a section of top notch imported and craftbeer. I was shocked when I saw they had the Dogfish head Sah’Tea. I had not seen it anywhere and just that morning I had heard stores complaining on twitter that they hadn’t received it. Now I was excited.
After experiencing the Spuyten Duyvil, I had to visit their Grocery. Walking the 3 blocks over to the store from the bar, I was hoping that it would live up to the bar and have an extensive selection of beer. Fair warning, the store is not on the street, it is inside a mini mall and can be a bit hard to find if you don’t know where to look. The Grocery is a tiny store, but it trapped me in with dark wood shelves and all the quality beer.
I really came into craft beer drink in the late 90′s when the “thing” in the San Francisco area was the “Wall of Beer”. Every beer store worth its weight had a wall full of single bottles, 12oz, 500ml, 22oz, 750ml. You could mix and match, it was nice to always come home with a new beer. I got that same “kid in a candy store” feeling when I saw the wall of beer at the Liquor Outlet.
