New Glarus Apple Ale

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

I Just finished upgrading my Jockey Box (post to come soon) and I deserve a beer, but I wanted something different tonight.  I’ve indulged in a ton of IPA’s over the last week since my Buddy Jake sent me a huge box of goodies from the Midwest.  Tucked away in this box of ridiculously twisted IPA’s there was a lone bottle of New Glarus’s Unplugged Apple Ale.

New Glarus Cherry Stout

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

It’s good to have friends in different parts of the country to send you beer that you can’t get locally, this beer comes to me via my buddy Jason at BarleyPopMarker.  You can read his New Glarus Cherry Stout review here, which I hadn’t read prior to this review.  I’ve had a bunch of New Glarus beers of late and when I heard their latest “Unplugged” would a cherry stout, I got pretty excited.  Love Stouts, Love Cherries, and Love spontaneous fermentation.  That’s right  spontaneous fermentation.  This beer was aged in oak barrels to promote  spontaneous fermentation, which gets me wondering will this beer be sour or funky and how much.newglarus_cherrystout1

New Belgium Frambozen

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Got beer mail?  Well I do.  I trade beer with people all over the U.S. because there are so many craft beers and not all of them are distributed in my lovely state of New Jersey!  This New Belgium Frambozen was sent to me by my new Beer Buddy, Scott in Colorado.  I’d heard some good things about this beer so I was excited to try it.NewBelgium_Frambozen2

Hangar 24 Orange Wheat

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

I’ve been seeking a lot of west coast / midwest beers that I can’t get in New Jersey.  On the plate tonight is Hangar 24′s Orange Wheat. This beer was sent to me in a beer trade by Thomas Ham, otherwise known as the Average Beer Snob. I had never heard of this brewery before Thomas sent me this beer.  Now, I’m not the biggest fan of wheat beers, but I can definitely appreciate them and an Orange Wheat sounds particularly intriguing to me.hanger24_orange2

Beer Review: 2002 Unibroue Quelque Chose

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I think this is the first beer I was confused on how to drink it.  The Unibroue Quelque Chose has a label hanging from the next of the bottle with drinking instructions… huh? The label tells you to drink it as a hot “cider” or as a cold summer drink.  I choose the later, since it summer, but the hot cider concept intrigues me.  I like many beers at room temperature, but I’ve never had a warm beer, perhaps another time.  As a cold beer:unibroue_quelque1
