Half Acre Double Daisy Cutter

Monday, January 10th, 2011

I’ve heard great things about this Chicago Beer, especially from my friend Lee Williams. So as soon I saw fellow beer blogger, Jake Koeneman, tweet about going to the brewery to pick some up, I jokingly tweeted back “Pick me up a Couple”.  Well he did and now I’m about to indulge in a 22oz bottle of Double Daisy Cutter.

Exploding Goodness!

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

As some of you may have noticed I took a couple weeks off, but that didn’t stop me from indulging in a few beers.  The most memorable was an exploding bottle of Hitachino Nest XH.  I pulled this out of my cellar when I decided to have a personal tasting of some barrel aged beers.  Normally a bottle of exploding beer would really piss me off, in this case it really pissed me off, why?  Because it was so damn good.

Weyerbacher Riserva 2010

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

I wasn’t actually going to write anything on this beer cause I’m swamped with work, but this beer has provoked me to do a quick write up.  What got me to try this beer was the warning label on the side of the bottle.  Every year for at least the last couple, Weyerbacher has been putting out a Riserva beer.  I’d never had it and frankly I never was impressed with the label so I just kinda glazed by it in the past.  I know wrong reason to skip over a beer, but I’m a visual person, it is what it is.

NJ Beer Company Weekhawken Wee Heavy

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

My Buddy Matt Steinberg took a bold step that many of us homebrewers dream of, opening our own brewery. Not only did he do that, he did it in a state that does not support or make it easy for people to open a brewery, but he is making some awesome beers.  Thanks Prohibition for all the fucked up laws!  The NJ Beer Co has been open for about 8 months, Matt has produced his first seasonal beer, the Weehawken Wee Heavy.  According to Matt, this is a Scottish Style Ale,  but what is cool, Matt and his Brewer Pete also created a 60 Schilling mild with the second running’s of this beer which I’ve sampled several times.

Brewery Ommegang Porter (Sorta)

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

I’m lucky enough to be on Ommegang’s beer list and occasionally they send me beer to check out.  The last box I received from them had two bottles from their “Exclusive Beers” line.  As far as I can tell these are pilot/test batches that they are looking for feed back on.  The first one was the Zwaar Blonde that my family shared with thanksgiving dinner and the other was this Porter (sorta).  this beer was brewed about a year ago and bottled about 10 months ago.  After drinking the Zwaar Blonde last week, I’m really excited to try this porter.  As some of you know, Porter is one of my favorite styles.

Did Your Sexual Chocolate go bad?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Been hearing a lot of chatter on twitter whether or not this years foothills Brewing’s Sexual Chocolate had some issues.  Since I was lucky enough to have a friend with an extra bottle a couple months ago, I decided to see if  my bottle was a victim to internet rumors.
