Bolero Snort Wee Heifer’s Fruitcake

Monday, January 17th, 2011

A couple nights ago, I braved the blinding snow to hit the CopperMine Pub’s monthly homebrewers meetup.  There I meet up with some great local homebrewer’s including Robert Olsen.  Bob has been brewing quite seriously of late gearing himself for a run at a brewery, Bolero Snort.  On my way out Bob gave me a bottle of his Wee Heifer’s Fruitcake to try, which I’m really looking forward trying since his IPA from earlier that evening was frigging awesome!

NJ Beer Company Weekhawken Wee Heavy

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

My Buddy Matt Steinberg took a bold step that many of us homebrewers dream of, opening our own brewery. Not only did he do that, he did it in a state that does not support or make it easy for people to open a brewery, but he is making some awesome beers.  Thanks Prohibition for all the fucked up laws!  The NJ Beer Co has been open for about 8 months, Matt has produced his first seasonal beer, the Weehawken Wee Heavy.  According to Matt, this is a Scottish Style Ale,  but what is cool, Matt and his Brewer Pete also created a 60 Schilling mild with the second running’s of this beer which I’ve sampled several times.

Friday, October 8th, 2010

My wife and I are on a quest to find her 10 beers over the next 3 months that she can enjoy! We have found very few beers that she has enjoyed. But on this one fun filled night, I hit a grand slam or at least figured out how to introduce new beer to my wife. Granted there will still be beer she doesn’t like, but with some good food and in this case good family I have a leg up. With my beer adventurous in-laws, good food, and some great beer, I think I might have figured it out. (more…)

Beer Review: Oskar Blues Old Chub Scottish Style Ale

Friday, August 28th, 2009

For the second beer review in a row, another beer in a can.  This time it’s from Oskar Blues Brewery’s Old Chub Scottish Style Ale.  I love this style of beer with its big malty flavors and low hop profile and after seeing a review of this beer on a fellow beer bloggers site (Thank heaven for Beer), I really wanted to give this beer a try.oskarblues_chub

MacFoochies Scottish Ale

Monday, April 20th, 2009

I’m really surprised that more breweries don’t make Scottish style ales.  I usually find them to be quite complex and drinkable as such I usually will buy some if I find some.  At a recent trip to Andy Corner Bar in Bogota NJ, I found this MacFoochies Scottish Ale and so now I bring it to you.
