A couple nights ago, I braved the blinding snow to hit the CopperMine Pub’s monthly homebrewers meetup.  There I meet up with some great local homebrewer’s including Robert Olsen.  Bob has been brewing quite seriously of late gearing himself for a run at a brewery, Bolero Snort.  On my way out Bob gave me a bottle of his Wee Heifer’s Fruitcake to try, which I’m really looking forward trying since his IPA from earlier that evening was frigging awesome!

My wife and I are on a quest to find her 10 beers over the next 3 months that she can enjoy!  We have found very few beers that she has enjoyed.  So tonight we sampled two beers, Southern Tiers Creme Brulee and Fantome Dark White.  These are almost polar opposite beers, so I hoped by choosing such different beers, I could start to get a track on what is going to appeal to Dani. This beer comes to me from a great beer guy, Jason over at BarleyPopMaker. The two things I always ask him to send me are New Glarus and the Tyranena’s Brewers Gone Wild beers. Jason had previously sent me a wicked Rye, Bitter Women in the Rye (Awesome Beer), so in this trade he sent me Benji’s Smoked Imperial Porter with Chipotle Peppers.  Now, I’m a huge fan of smoked beer and chili’s, but at the same time don’t want my lips to go numb while drinking a beer.

Another ancient beer that Dogfish head has resurrected in a series of extreme beer, such as Midas Touch and Sah’tea.  The Chateau Jiahu is based on the findings of a Molecular Archeologist in Northern China.  Dogfish Head first introduced this ancient representation in 2006 and have since been making it as a seasonal rarity.

The Bruery is fairly new to the east coast, New Jersey at least.  I have just started seeing their beers here over the last couple months.  After trying their Saison Rue and the Trade Winds, I’ve been looking forward to trying more.  This next one from the Bruery, the Black Orchard, has a great description on the bottle: “..our unique distortion of teh Belgian witbier”.  How great is that?  Right on the label they tell us we like the wit, but screw it, we’re gonna mess with it completely!
