Brooklyn Brewery Manhattan Project

Monday, October 12th, 2009

My latest find on the Brooklyn Brewmasters series is the Manhattan Project.  Like, the Sorachi Ace, I found it on draft at the Cloverleaf tavern in Cardwell NJ (you can only get the Brewmasters series on Draft).  I think of all the Brewmaster beers I’ve had this one has a very cool back story.brooklyn_manhattanproject (more…)

Beer Brawl™ 26 – Oktoberfest Part 1 – Blind Tasting

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Our first ever blind Beer Brawl.  We decided to test as many Oktoberfest beers as we could easily get our hands on without going over board.  We ended up with 12 that we wanted to try and decided it would be fun to see what Fest beer we truly liked the best without any influence from the brand name.  Since there were 12 beers we decide to split it up into two batches.  We knew what was in each 6 block trial, but we didn’t know the order they would be served and the results we quite stunning!

Beer Brawl™ 25 – Pumpkin Beer

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Seems like there are a lot of pumpkin beers out there now.  Is this the new American fall beer, like Oktoberfest is for Germany?  I hope not, this type of vegetable beer has only really been commercially made for the last 25 years or so.  Not a long history but as you’ll see a wide variety of flavors can be found with this type of beer from mildly seasoned to full on doughy pumpkin pie.BeerBrawl25_pumpkin

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Another beer in Brooklyn’s ever increasing Brewmaster’s Series, this time the Sorachi Ace.  The Brewmaster Series are a seasonal or limited release styles which are only available on draft.  The last one I had was the Cuvee de Cardoz, an absolutely amazing beer which I can’t wait to have again. The Sorachi Ace is a farmhouse ale featuring the rare Japanese-developed hop Sorachi Ace.

Brooklyn-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse vs Schneider-Brooklyn Hopfen-Weisse

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

It is not to often you get the same beer made by two different breweries, but when you do, I felt obligated to do a side by side comparison.  The Brooklyn-Schneider Hopfen-weisse and the Schneider-Brooklyn Hopfen-weisse  are the brain children of Garrett Oliver from Brooklyn Brewery and Hans-Peter Drexler of the Schneider Weissbier Brewery.  I was at a Garrett Oliver lecture recently and he said these two beers are identical except for the hops and yeast.  The Schneider-Brooklyn version highlights the Hallertauer Saphir hops while the Brooklyn-Schneider version highlights aromatic American hops.brooklynschneider
