Great Divide 16th Anniversary Wood Aged Double IPA

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Scott strikes again, fresh out of Colorado, my trading buddy sent me a Great Divide 16th Anniversary Wood Aged Double IPA last week. I don’t really want to sit on this one, I’ve been looking forward to this since Adam posted this on BeerNews.org.  I’m super excited to try it;  Love IPA’s and I love oaked beers, time to see how Great Divide put these together in a beer.

Great Divide Espresso Oak aged Yeti

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

My buddy Scott in Colorado sent me this beer a couple months back when it first came out (and a glass to drink it in).  I stashed it way with my ever increasing collection of beer and soon forgot about it.  That was until I got an email from Scott the other day about some podcast ideas and suddenly I had a hankering for an espresso (coffee) stout.  So here we are, I’m about to pull this out and I don’t know much about the beer aside from its got coffee in it and it is base beer is the wonderfully delicious Yeti Imperial Stout.  I reviewed it about a year ago and it was already packed fully of chocolate and coffee aromas and flavors.  In Great Divides’ infinite wisdom (seriously) they made an oaked version of Yeti.  Yeti aged with oak chips, which was even better then the Yeti with an additional layer of complexity of vanilla and oak.  Now they have taken the Oaked Yeti and added espresso to it.  They scored with the first ramp up of the Yeti to oaked Yeti, lets see how the Espresso infused oak aged Yeti is.greatdivide_espresso2

Great Divide Belgica Belgian Style IPA

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I think Great Divide has been putting out some good beer, I recently reviewed the Hades, the Yeti, Hercules, and their Fresh Hop Pale Ale.  There is a lot of lineage for the Belgica Belgian IPA to live up to. gratdivide_belgica

Beer Review: Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

When a friend, especially a self proclaimed beer geek says “you gotta try this beer it’s amazing”; I went out and got a couple bottles, although it did take me three months to get around to drinking it.  I’ve had several Great Divide beers before and the have all been above par to exceptional, I’m expecting this Russian Imperial Stout to hold the grade.

Great Divide Hercules Double IPA

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I’m a hophead, I’ll admit it.  I absolutely love beers with lots of hops.  The aroma that hops can bring to a beer is such a wonderful part of drinking an IPA, especially when you get into Double India Pale Ale (DIPA) and Imperial India Pale Ale (IIPA).  The Hercules Double India Pale Ale from the Great Divide Brewing Co. is no exception at 85 IBU’s and 9.1% ABV, it is a big hoppy beer.
